Bentota & Madu River

Bentota is a resort town of golden sandy beaches on the south-west coast. It offers a wide range of water sports, a sea turtle hatchery and the calm Madu River, which has been a popular tourist attraction since the 19th century.

A boat ride on the Madu River takes you through mangrove channels and past small islands, with the chance to see herons, crocodiles and other wildlife, and even try fish therapy along the way.
